The band, led by singer Michael Hutchence, caught on in their home country in the early 1980s and made waves abroad shortly after. Their 1985 album Listen Like Thieves was a breakout moment for INXS. The record charted in Australia, the US, Canada, and the UK. It has since been certified Platinum in the US, New Zealand, and Australia. While Hutchence tragically died in 1997, the band continued
