HMS Oxley was the first British submarine lost during World War II

Gosset was promoted Major General in 1896 and retired in 1903 as Colonel of the Dorsetshire Regiment

The strikers threatened to hold up the sailing of the ship by refusing to put the baggage on board

These include a wound from a grenade to his head which led to a silver plate being inserted in the crown of his skull in September 1939
