Constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse bearing a raised depiction of an Allied soldier humiliating a German civilian, circumscribed by an inscription of SCHWARZE SCHMACH UND KULTURSCHANDE AM RHEIN (BLACK SHAME AND CULTURAL SHAME ON THE RHINE), the reverse bearing a central depiction of a broken sword topped by an inscription of DEUTSCHER NOT UND SCHMACH TALER (GERMAN DISTRESS AND DISGRACE TALER), the obverse engraver marked WITTIG,
